Medieval Historical Fiction

You’ve finished all your Ken Folletts and Dorothy Dunnett is dead and you’re sad because you’re thinking you’ve already read every historical novel on the planet that is set in the Middle Ages? Fear not, for the good people at medieval-novels.com are here to show you just how unlikely that is. The post that will make your head explode (but in a good way) is this one which lists all the medieval novels in alphabetical order with amazon.com links to each one. They have a separate section for medieval mysteries right here for all your Brother Cadfael/Dame Frevisse needs.

So don’t tell me you’ve got nothing to read.

  1. As one of the two owners of medieval-novels.com I thank you for listing about us. In fact I started gathering this info about a year ago with the express purpose of putting such a resource together for myself. I don’t see the point of doing all that work and then keeping it to myself, so I asked Brandy Purdy to help me set up the bookstore online.

I can tell you now that we will NEVER run out of books to add.. everytime we find a book to add we discover a dozen more.. if it weren’t deliriously-happy-making it would be daunting. We are at over 1000 books and DVDs now and expect that to doubble.

So far we are making ones of dollars off the Amazon link.. but the work and your appreciation is its own reward.

We want to hear from everyone what they would like to see onn the bookstore site. And we are doing a monthly email newsletter starting July… so drop by and see the latest.

  2. Hi Lucy – thanks for the link 🙂 Great to have a handy list like that, though I won’t use the Amazon links (don’t buy from Amazon). My local indies SO books for me quite happily.

  3. Teresa. feel free to use medieval-novels.com as a reference, though of course this means I don’t get a penny for my trouble. 🙂 I list books from other sources too, so Amazon is not the only source on the site.

Truly, I developed the site for love of the genre.

My novel is out, An Involuntary King, a tome full of heart. I list it at http://www.shield-wall.com from a variety of sources.

  4. I am looking for historical fiction books to recommend to 7th grade students; in the time period 300 to 1500 CE. Any suggestions where to find a list??

    Thanks!

  5. Hmm, I’m trying to remember the ones I liked at that age. Rosemary Sutcliffe is excellent. Karen Cushman’s “Catherine Called Birdy.” Frances Mary Hendry “Quest for a Maid.”

  6. We suddenly got quite a few visitors from this page on January 4 2012!

I thought I’d update you. I am the sole owner now.

We now use an actual in fact database.

And… we have over 1,700 books listed along with a few movies!

The proceeds are not hefty, but it keeps me in mp3s for my Celtic radio station http://www.radiodedanann.com
